What did the majority think of this faithful retelling of Leon and Ashley’s story, though? Here’s what other critics have to say about Resident Evil 4 Remake! Resident Evil 4 Remake review round-up Alas, as I delved into in my own 5/5 review of Resi 4, it appears that Capcom have - for the most part - nailed it. After recently (and rather successfully) bringing Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 kicking and screaming into the modern age, Capcom is back with another remake of a survival horror classic, as Resident Evil 4 Remake comes to PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Not only did Capcom successfully reinvent the series, but Resident Evil 4 would go on to influence hordes of future survival horror and third-person shooter games. While I've always been more of a fan of the original Resident Evil (particularly the Gamecube remake), it's fair to say that Resident Evil 4 provided a much needed shot in the arm for a franchise that was starting to grow a little stale. Whether you love the original or are completely new to the franchise, Resident Evil 4 Remake is well worth your time. Awkward movement and camera controls give way to a smoother dual-stick system used in most third-person shooters, including the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes.Īwesome visuals and fantastic sound effects only add to the experience, creating a tense and eerie atmosphere, with danger lurking around every corner. The modernised control scheme is arguably best of all, especially if you've recently played the original. There are also far more side-quests and unlockables, not to mention an addictive shooting game that can be used to unlock charms that apply various stat boosts to your storage case. You'll still spend most of your time attempting headshots and kneecapping villagers, but the added moves give you more options. Leon can use his knife to parry incoming attacks, or as a last-ditch defensive move if he gets grabbed by a murderous villager. His combat knife also plays a bigger role in fighting off enemies. Then there are the new gameplay features, like Leon's ability to stealthily dispatch enemies by sneaking up from behind. Iconic locations make a return, only now they're bigger, better and packed with greater levels of detail. Just as action-packed but more horrifying, the remake of RE4 gives Capcom a stepping stone for future remakes and installments in the series. The Resident Evil 4 Remake takes everything that was good about the original game and expands on it. Even though Resident Evil 4 is a bonafide classic, Capcom's remake somehow manages to improve on the original in almost every way.
